Donor-advised fund at Fidelity Charitable, Schwab, or BNY Mellon? This form starts the grant with your sponsor in one step.
Grants arrive by check from your sponsor; no fees are taken.
Recommending a grant, step by step
Every sponsor's screens look a little different, and the button may be called something other than "recommend a grant." The steps are the same.
- Sign in to your donor-advised fund account.
- Choose the option to recommend or request a grant to a charity.
- Search for NYC Honor Foundation Inc. or EIN 42-1836369. If it does not come up, enter the details above by hand.
- Enter the amount. If the form asks for a purpose, "general support" lets the gift go where the season needs it.
- Submit, then tell us it is coming at eslyn@nychonor.org. Checks from a sponsor can arrive with no donor name on them, so that note is what lets us thank you.
When the grant arrives, we confirm receipt and send a written acknowledgment for your records.
What your grant does
$5,000 carries one team's full season: travel, uniforms, and tournament entry. Our goal is two teams. In its first season, the 17U team reached the MADE Hoops Circuit national championship game. The 2026 season is written up in full, and the impact page shows where the money goes.
Why donors pick NYC Honor
Every player also gets a free NIL course: how name, image and likeness deals work, and how that money is taxed. The course is free, and it always will be. Volunteers write and teach it, and no donated dollar pays for it. Your grant goes to the season.
Two tax rules that change how you give
- The new $1,000 and $2,000 deduction skips donor-advised funds. Starting in 2026, people who take the standard deduction can deduct up to $1,000 in cash gifts ($2,000 on a joint return) made directly to public charities. Gifts to donor-advised funds are excluded by name. The rule is in section 170(p) of the tax code, explained on the charitable deduction without itemizing. A card gift on the donate page goes directly to us.
- An IRA gift cannot go into a donor-advised fund, but it can come straight to us. From age 70½, a qualified charitable distribution from a traditional IRA to a public charity never counts as income. Donor-advised funds are excluded; NYC Honor qualifies, because its IRS classification, 509(a)(2), is not an excluded category. The 2026 limit is $111,000 per person. The rules are on the QCD limit for 2026.

This is education, not advice
NYC Honor Foundation is a charity, not a tax or investment advisory firm. Tax outcomes depend on facts this page never sees. Talk to your own tax professional or your fund's sponsor before acting on any of it.
