Who we are
This site belongs to NYC Honor Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity in New York (EIN 42-1836369). Questions about anything on this page go to eslyn@nychonor.org.
We do not sell anyone's information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not run ads.
NYC Honor Academy (the course)
The course pages are written for high-school players, so they are built to collect nothing that identifies a player. That covers every lesson, the certificate, the standards page, the parents' guide, the NIL Tax Calculator and the financial literacy page.
- No account. We never ask a player for a name, an email or a school.
- Progress stays on the phone. Badges, quiz answers and progress are saved in the browser on that device. They are not sent to us. The season code is worked out on the phone from the badges, so a player can carry progress to another browser. It holds no name.
- The certificate name stays on the phone. The name typed on the certificate is used to draw the image on the device. We never receive it.
- Calculator numbers stay on the phone. The NIL Tax Calculator does its math in the browser. What you type is not sent anywhere.
- An anonymous tally. So we can show funders the course is used, the pages send a tally mark when a lesson is opened or finished, when a quiz is aced, when a lesson is rated helpful or not, and when it is shared. For the optional warm-up quiz we count only the score, like 2 out of 3, never the answers. Each mark records the month, what happened and which lesson. If a coach gave the team a team link, it also records that team's code. It does not record an IP address, browser details, a cookie, a device ID or anything typed.
- Google Analytics only if you say yes. The course pages ask before loading Google Analytics. If you tap Allow, Google counts the visit and receives the usual details any website visit sends, like your IP address and browser type, and sets its cookies. Advertising features are turned off. If you tap No thanks, it never loads. You can change your answer any time with the "Visit stats" link at the bottom of each course page.
- No session recording. Microsoft Clarity, which we use elsewhere on the site, never runs on the course pages.
- Fonts and videos come from our own site, not from Google or YouTube, so loading a lesson does not hand your IP address to them.
The course hub and the parents' guide each have a sign-up box for parents and coaches who want updates. Those are the only places on the course that ask for an email, and they are meant for adults.
The rest of the site
Outside the course, the site uses two tools to see how visitors use it:
- Google Analytics counts visits and shows which pages and links brought people here. Google receives your IP address and browser details and sets cookies.
- Microsoft Clarity records how people move through a page, like clicks and scrolling, so we can see where a page is confusing. Microsoft receives your IP address and browser details and sets cookies.
Every page, the course included, also remembers in your own browser the page or link that first brought you here and the last page you read. That stays on your device unless you make a donation or buy a clinic ticket, when it is sent along so we know which pages lead to gifts. The giving calculator and the IRA gift calculator do their math in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us.
If you sign up for updates
We keep your email, which list you joined (family, donor, coach and so on), which page you signed up on, and the date. They are stored in our donor records at Airtable. We use them only to send NYC Honor news and our year-end giving reminder. To be removed, email eslyn@nychonor.org and we will delete your email.
If you donate or buy a clinic ticket
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card or bank details go to Stripe, never to us. We receive your name, email, the amount, the date, whether it repeats monthly, and which page led to it. For a coaches' clinic ticket we also receive the school or program and the names of other coaches on the order, if you give them. We keep these in Stripe and in our donor records at Airtable, and use them to send receipts, thank you, and keep the records a charity must keep for tax purposes. Because of those rules we may not be able to delete a donation record, but we will stop contacting you if you ask.
Parents
If you think your child sent us their information, email eslyn@nychonor.org and we will find it and delete it.
Your choices
- Clearing your browser's data for nychonor.org removes everything the site saved on your device, including course progress. Save your season code first.
- On the course pages, use the "Visit stats" link to turn Google Analytics on or off.
- Email us to see, fix or delete what we hold about you.
Who handles data for us
Netlify hosts the site and briefly handles your IP address to deliver each page, like any web host. Stripe handles payments. Airtable holds our donor and update lists. Google and Microsoft run the analytics described above. Each has its own privacy policy.
Changes
When this page changes, the date at the top changes too.
